Originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Erik graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame. He began his career in accounting at the Atlanta office of Arthur Andersen where his foodservice clients helped Erik discover a new passion: the restaurant industry. Erik began writing restaurant business plans on nights and weekends, but his dream of starting his own restaurant was put on hold when one of best friends from high school proposed that they partner to start a record label. As a lifelong musician and music fan, Erik loved the idea and left Arthur Andersen to become the next “Richard Branson”. The label never took off, but it did lead the two friends to start Frequency Media, a music monitoring company eventually acquired by a subsidiary of ASCAP. The acquisition moved Erik to New York City where he fed his passion for music and food. He was inspired by the sustainable food movement taking hold in New York, and later in Los Angeles, where he worked as a music executive for mobile phone start-up Amp’d Mobile. In 2010, Erik finally realized his dream of opening a restaurant that championed organic food by launching two YEAH! BURGER locations in Atlanta. After recognizing a need for more clean and convenient food options in Atlanta and beyond, Erik opened Upbeet with Kelly in June 2017, and continues to create, operate, and grow restaurant brands that are better for their customers, the environment, and the local communities they serve.
Also a Pennsylvania native, Kelly graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama before moving to New York City where she began her career in public relations and marketing in the fashion industry at Diane von Furstenberg. Kelly transitioned to representing hospitality clients in 2011 when she moved to Atlanta and quickly gained an interest in the restaurant industry after working with several successful local chefs and restaurateurs. After meeting Erik in 2013, Kelly was impressed with the work he was doing to bring sustainable, organic food to Atlanta with YEAH! BURGER. Shortly thereafter, she decided to join the YEAH! BURGER team to handle marketing and social media. After several years of digging into the operations of the business, she was drawn to the opportunity to create modern restaurant brands that made a difference and partnered with Erik to open Upbeet in June 2017. Kelly currently serves as President where she oversees operations, marketingn, and social media while collaborating with Erik on human resources, branding, and store design.
